FR4 is one of the most popular PCB substrate materials, made of epoxy resin and glass fiber. This material can bond well with copper foil, minimizing the risk of delamination or fall-off. FR4 material does not easily absorb water in a humid environment and can maintain stable electrical properties, making it particularly suitable for a variety of standard electronic products. In addition, FR4 can be used to manufacture single-layer, double-layer circuit boards, and even complex multi-layer PCBs.

FR4 material stands out for its mechanical strength, electrical insulation, and moisture resistance. It also bonds well with copper foil, improving durability and reliability.
Even though FR4 can be trusted for standard uses, it doesn’t work well for high-frequency or RF applications because of its high Df. For such cases, specialized material like Rogers is recommended.
The water absorption of FR4 is low, and it can keep good electrical insulating properties in humid conditions.
Standard FR4 PCBs can usually work with temperatures up to 130°C. When the temperature needs to be higher, you should use high-Tg FR4 materials.
