PCB Assembly Capabilities

Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) is the process of mounting electronic components onto a bare PCB to create a functional board. At BESTProto, we support all major assembly types, including:

  • Surface Mount (SMT), Through-Hole (THT), and Mixed Assembly
  • SMT Devices down to 01005 sizes
  • BGA, uBGA, LGA, CSP, QFN, and QFP Assembly
  • Rigid, Rigid-Flex, and Flex PCB Assembly
  • Leaded and RoHS-Compliant Processes
  • Conformal Coating
  • Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), X-Ray, Flying Probe, Functional Testing

PCB Assembly Service Levels

Full Turnkey PCB Assembly

The end-to-end PCB assembly service where we source all required components, perform DFM analysis, assemble PCBs, inspect and test them before shipping.

Partial Turnkey Assembly

We partially source the required components, while the customer provides all bare boards and additional parts. We assemble and test the boards before shipping.

Kitted PCB Assembly

Labor-only service where all the bare boards, components, and parts required for the assembly are provided by the customer. We assemble and inspect the boards before shipping.

Our Quality Standards

BESTProto’s assemblies are built to IPC-A-610 Class 2 and Class 3 standards. We follow strict inspection and testing protocols, including:

  • Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)
  • X-ray inspection for BGAs and hidden joints
  • Functional and in-circuit testing upon request

Our commitment ensures every board performs reliably in mission-critical applications, from consumer devices to aerospace systems.

Quick-Turn PCB Assembly Turn Times

Our PCB Assembly Process

A high-level overview of the standard PCB Assembly process.

Product Documentation

Our team confirms the receipt of the necessary files (Gerber, ODB++, BOM), product requirements, and order details.

Assembly Preparations

Prepare for solder deposition process. Program our machines based on the information received. Any discrepancies found in the files are addressed.

Parts & Components

Whether sourced by us or the client, our team audits the received kit. Any discrepancies are addressed before the assembly lead time begins.

SMT Components Assembly

SMT components are assembled on our automated equipment. The first board goes through extensive QA to assure correct part placement and passive SMT verification.

Automated Optical Inspection

As the first boards come off the reflow oven, the first article inspection is performed with our AOI equipment to catch any assembly issues.

Leadless Parts X-ray Inspection

All leadless devices, such as BGA parts, are X-rayed to verify placement accuracy and detect any solder bridges.

Plated Secondary Assembly

THT, mechanical, and special parts are inserted and soldered manually or using our selective soldering machines, depending on the board design and quantities.

Final IPC-610 Inspection

The assembled boards are washed, then subjected to a thorough IPC-610 final quality inspection.

Order Shipping and Drop-Shipping

The finished PCB assemblies and any extra materials are prepped for packaging and then shipped back to the client or drop-shipped as instructed.

Trusted By Hardware Designers Across The USA

You guys are magicians. I will be telling my family how grateful I am for BestProto this Thanksgiving.

Brian Rutkowski PCB Design Engineer, IMC Trading, Chicago, IL

BestProto nailed our prototype on the first try – saved us weeks!

John O.Hardware Designer, Chicago, IL

Thanks for the update. Now that I see the successful image, I certainly can better understand what the issue was before. Thank you for the extra effort from you and your team. We greatly appreciate it.

Mitchell Gebheim Engineering Manager, Avionicsr, ORBION SPACE TECHNOLOGY, Houghton, MI

Working with Bestproto remains one of the best times for building the product. It was fast, iterative, collaborative, and efficient. From the design to the working product, they were great to work with.

Brian H.CEO, Chicago, IL

Over the last year, I have worked with the Bestproto team on prototyping and assembling a new product from the ground up. The assigned team comprised some solid engineers who truly understood the value of a well-built electronic device.
