Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Step 1: Remove the Old Disposal (if applicable)

Disconnect the drain pipe and the dishwasher hose (if connected). Loosen the mounting assembly that holds the disposal to the sink flange. Support the weight of the disposal as you detach it. Remove the old sink flange and clean the area thoroughly.

Step 2: Install the New Sink Flange

Apply a rope of plumber's putty around the underside of the new sink flange. Press the flange up into the drain hole from the top of the sink. From underneath, slide the mounting ring, fiber gasket, and backup ring onto the flange. Tighten the mounting bolts evenly to secure the flange and create a watertight seal. Wipe away any excess putty that squeezes out.

Step 3: Mount the Disposal Unit

Attach the mounting assembly to the disposal unit according to the manufacturer's directions. This typically involves aligning and turning a mounting ring. Hang the disposal onto the sink flange by aligning the mounting assembly. Rotate the lower mounting ring to lock the disposal securely in place.

Step 4: Connect the Drain Pipes

Connect the discharge tube from the disposal to the drain trap. You may need to cut the pipes to fit using a hacksaw. Use slip-joint nuts and washers to create a secure, leak-free connection. Ensure all connections are tight but avoid over-tightening, which can crack plastic fittings.

Step 5: Connect the Dishwasher (if applicable)

If you have a dishwasher, remove the knockout plug from the disposal's dishwasher inlet port. Connect the dishwasher drain hose to the inlet using a hose clamp.

Step 6: Electrical Connection

Important: If you are not comfortable working with electricity, hire a licensed electrician.

For hardwired models: Connect the disposal's wires (black, white, green or bare copper) to the corresponding house circuit wires inside the electrical box. Secure with wire connectors and ensure the ground wire is properly attached. Tuck the wires safely into the box and replace the cover.

For plug-in models: Simply plug the cord into a properly grounded outlet under the sink.

Step 7: Final Checks and Testing

Turn the water supply back on. Run water into the sink and check all drain connections for leaks. Tighten fittings if necessary. Once confirmed leak-free, restore power at the circuit breaker. Run cold water, turn on the disposal, and listen for normal operation. Never run the disposal without water flowing.

• Avoid putting fibrous materials (celery, onion skins), grease, coffee grounds, or hard items (bones, fruit pits) down the disposal.
