The Collagen Induced Arthritis (CIA) model is a commonly used model as it shares immunological and pathological similarities to human rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Arthritis is initiated by intradermal injections of Collagen Type II (CII) emulsified in Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA). This causes an immune response generating antibodies to CII. Therefore there is both a T cell and B cell component to the pathology. This joint destruction in collagen-induced arthritis involves cartilage destruction, bone resorption, synovial hyperplasia and periarticular cell infiltration thereby sharing many similarities to human RA.
The quality of collagen and emulsion plays a critical role in disease incidence in the CIA model. MD Bioproducts provides highly-purified (>99%), quality collagen and adjuvants for induction in arthritis in in vivo models as well as for use in in vitro applications.
MD Bioproducts specializes in providing the highest quality collagen, particularly Collagen Type II, for use in disease induction studies, with a primary focus on arthritis research in preclinical settings.
